The unfinished North Temple Tower has the most intricate sculptures. Shiva Purana is depicted on the walls of the Gopuram with some episodes of the Ramayana and the Mahabharatha are really a feast to eyes.

Ramalingeswara Swamy (Shiva) is the presiding deity of the temple.

As water always flow (‘Bugga’ in Telugu) on the Lingam into the sanctum sanctorum from a perennial underground stream, the temple got this name ‘Bugga Ramalingeswara Temple’.

PERIOD : This colossal temple was built between 1490 and 1509 by Ramalinga Nayudu of the Vijayanagara Dynasty. During Islamic invasions, many sculptures of the temple were defaced and plundered.
